A Weekend in Suffolk: Flatford & Dedham Vale – 21 May 2011

Beautiful Constable country.

Dedham was unrecognisable from Constable's paintings, Dedham Mill having been extended and converted into apartments. But Flatford, in spite of modern times, was still very much as John Constable would have seen it.

Mother by Flatford Mill Remember The Haywain, this was opposite Flatford MillHere is the same view today but without the hay cart. Some trees have gone and others have come up in other places changing the view.

This is the view from the other side with the cottage now on the right and this is the rear of Flatford mill and mill house.

Then there was the dry dock where boats were built and repaired and the same dock today without any boats.

Seth says, "I did a project on John Constable. I saw all of those paintings and showed some of them in a powerpoint. It was interesting to see them now."
