Fremantle Museum of History

On arrival at Fremantle the first thing we found was a Frip (souvenir) Shop. So we got a few gifts because we thought after the museum we might be too tired to think straight and not know what to buy. We then ate our picnic lunch in St Johns Square in the shade of some trees. We took a few photographs, then we walked to the museum. This is housed in the old lunatic asylum which was built by convicts for those less fortunate than themselves.
There we saw a very good display about the colonization of Western Australia commencing with Captain Fremantle circa 1829, through to the post-war £10 deals that brought my uncle Joseph and my uncle George over to Melbourne with their families. The new migrants had a very hard time of it. The incentive was all about the dream of a better life, but that dream was only fulfilled after a lot of hard graft, which in some cases involved building their own houses from scratch just like the old wild west pioneers.
After our tour of the displays, we found in the grounds a courtyard cafĂ© offering milk shakes, but when we ordered we found that “Milk shakes are off” that is to say their machine had broken and they didn’t have any, so mum had cake and juice and I had apple crumble with ice cream. We then made our way back to the station to get the train home.
Why is it, that Galleries and Museums are so tiring? You don’t have to do anything, they just drain all the energy out of you. I think they use it to run the lights.

You do have to watch Mother! She's better with her glasses on.

Alas no milkshake for me!
