Today we went to Mandurah some 88km (54mls) south from Ruth’s.
The train travels into Perth down the centre of the freeway on what would be the central reservation, the south bound traffic on one side and the north bound traffic on the other side. The stations are also in the central reservation connected by bridges to the side of the freeway where there is generally a large car park for your suburban commuter and with good bus links through the suburbs as well. We come into Perth at platform 1 which is an underground station then in our case the same train departed for Perth Esplanade and then to Mandurah. We saw much new building on the way, suburbs expanding everywhere. On arrival at Mandurah our first thought was *!??!* is this it. But this rail link is a fairly new line and the station is on the edge of town where there is room for the obligatory large car park and bus station. I soon found the free bus into Mandurah foreshore and when we arrived it was a very pleasant place indeed. There was something for everyone. Pleasant walks along the waterfront and the board walk, eateries and ice cream shops. We stopped at "Simmo's" for an ice chocolate drink in a tall class with ice cream topped off with fresh cream. There were souvenir shops where we were able to buy gifts. I finally managed to find a hat that fit, having tried some small-to-medium size (made in China) that were too big, I found an Australian bush hat size Large!, which was a good fit, so much for size labels. Anyway you don’t come all the way to Australia to buy a hat made in China, do you? There was also a fun fair, miniature golf and other amusements at Mandurah, far enough away to be ignored, but near enough to go to if that’s what you like. The free bus took us back to the station and the train back through Perth to Warwick station, and all for just $8.40 each.
